Although we are already in Iceland and I have much to tell about that, I wanted to share a little about our departure first. It was a manic day with more stress than I can remember having concentrated into a 7 hour stretch. In retrospect, we spent too much time purging the house than packing our things. And even when we finished packing, we had to re-pack again once we realized that things weren’t going to fit and we had to purge even more. It didn’t help that our luggage scale was always reading 50.5 lbs for every suitcase. We were amazed at our ingenious packing skills – until we found out that the scale itself had a maximum weight of 50 lbs. We went from geniuses to complete fools. Despite the setbacks, we managed to be at the front door with our suitcases at 3:55 pm for our 4:00 pm shuttle pick-up. Of course, as luck would have it, the shuttle was about 45 minutes late.
I have to say, staying at an airport hotel the night before our departure was one of the best decisions we have made. It allowed us time to relax, re-pack (this time with a new luggage scale so accurate that each of our bags was either 22.5 or 23 kg) and to really enjoy our last meals in Canada for a while.
Will post again with stories of our first day in Iceland.
